This was a good night photo adventure. These amazing sand dunes are located in an area the locals(me) call Copper Canyon by Monument Valley and Oljato UT/AZ. I mentioned this spot to Wayne Pinkston and Eric Gail and they were game for it. I told them there were some awesome dunes surrounded by mesas in a very remote area in canyons surrounded by canyons. Some of my family on my father's side used to live out here, my ancestors. The road to this area is all off road and hardly a road. It took us about 2 hours to four wheel to this spot in Waynes JK Jeep Wrangler Sahara. You need an offroad vehicle with four wheel drive and good tires because the road is hardly a road and is much of going over boulders, sharp wash rocks and some deep sand in some spots. I have been down to these sand dunes many times. In the past I have come down to this spot with my father and grandfather to clean the spring that is right by these dunes for the cows that drink it. You know cows will shit in their own water, so we build the dam up and clean out all the poo. The dunes are enormous here and so we found a nice live tree to shoot and Wayne was the mastermind of setting up the low level lighting for this shot. Wayne let me use his fast Rokinon 20mm lens which helped catch the milky way so beautiful. We probably could have shot here all night, but we shot what we wanted and slowly headed back. This was an all night adventure, sleepless in the southwest in the summer.
